Alcohol does not only affect the Individual, it affects their Family, the Community and Society as a whole the following statistics are taken from Survey's carried out in 1992 and 1995.

 Health

29% of men and 11% of women drink over Sensible Limits

65% of suicides involve alcohol

6% of deaths of people under 75 years and 25, 000 deaths annually are alcohol related
20% of acute hospital admissions involve alcohol 
6% of men and 4% of women have experienced two or more  symptoms of physical or psychological dependence

Relationships

In 30% of divorces alcohol will be a factor
In 24% of Child abuse cases heavy drinking is a factor

Young People

12% of 9-15 year olds drink
20% of senior high school pupils in one county in North England had time off school because of alcohol

Offending

80% of Crimes of disorder are alcohol related
70% of murders are linked with alcohol
33% of murder victims were drunk at the time they were killed
For 33% of people in court or on probation alcohol will have been a factor in their offence

Road Traffic Accidents

33% of Road Traffic accidents across Europe involve alcohol
For Road Traffic Accidents in 2002 estimates suggest that 6% of them involved alcohol and resulted in over 20, 000 casualties

Employment

 74% of Employers said alcohol misuse was a problem in  their company
25% of accidents at work involve intoxicated workers
8-14 million days are lost each year due to alcohol related problems
