DOUBLE IMPACT
I first heard of Double Impact when I was about 3mths into recovery, I made an appointment for an assessment, which everyone has to do before joining Double Impact to see if they are suitable. The assessment was carried out just a few days after my first phone call, after that I could drop in anytime I liked.
On my first visit after my assessment I was a bit shy, I didn't know many of the other people but that didn't last for long! The staff are volunteers are really friendly, they put you at your ease and sit you down with other people for a coffee and a chat, before long I was drawn into conversation without even realising it.
There is a wide range of courses on offer and people are encouraged to do them if they feel it will help them. Its not compulsory to do any of the courses, but I found that by doing a few of them it would help my job prospects in the future. I got more than I bargained for ending up on a Maths, an English and an IT course, but there are many more to choose from.
The first course I did was STAGE, which teaches you about making yourself more aware of what help you need and it points you in the right direction for you. Then I thought I would like to know more about computers so I enrolled on an IT course at People's College, the English course I do at Double Impact compliments this well.
In attending Double Impact it not only helps my recovery but they are giving me an education as well. If you do have any problems of any sort you can have a one to one with any of the staff who will give you advice and guidance to help you sort out your problems.
The main aim of the project is to help addicts in recovery to have a clean and productive life.
