Back to apas annual report contents
apas
continues to receive a large amount of feedback in all aspects of the work we do
and for all the services that we provide. We receive a lot of encouragement and
support for our services from our clients and their families as well as
professionals in healthcare, education, legal services, housing, employment and
fellow substance misuse service providers. The majority of feedback we receive on improving our
service focuses on extending it both in Nottinghamshire and nationally. We
continue to receive requests for support from all round the country as well as
internationally. Some of the comments we have received on our services in the last 12mths: Feedback about our court reports “The Report we commissioned from apas for our client was most helpful and no doubt helped them to avoid a custodial sentence. It was gratifying to see someone being given support to address the problem that lead to their offending in the first place.” Feedback
received from a solicitor who commissioned one of our court reports. Instead of
receiving a custodial sentence the client was asked to address their alcohol
problem by attending weekly sessions at apas and completing the inpatient
programme at the Priory Clinic, Nottingham. Other
comments regarding our court reports: “The report was clear and precise, very detailed and easy to read” “All the relevant issues were raised and a full report was completed in a short amount of time, which was greatly appreciated!” Feedback
relating to our one to one client services
“apas provide an excellent service, my advice worker is really helping and I couldn’t ask for any better. I found I could talk about anything with them - including all the personal problems that I used to keep to myself. By talking about these problems and facing them I am starting to learn to cope without using alcohol.” These
comments were made by one service user who, after six sessions with us last
year, managed to stop drinking and is currently attending a counselling course
at their local college, with a view to becoming an alcohol counsellor. Other
comments from ongoing clients: “It is good to talk to someone who understands” “I found the service to be excellent, very helpful!” “Talking to someone at apas helped to highlight how excessive my drinking is” “Thanks for the help that apas has given me so far and thanks to the advice worker who I saw in HMP Nottingham for their help & support, I am hoping to come to apas on my release.” Feedback
on our telephone and drop in services
“One of the best things about referring patients to apas is the drop in service, no long winded referral process or waiting for an appointment, just instant, accessible support.” Feedback
received from a local Nottingham Doctor commenting on our drop in service at an
awareness day for healthcare professionals. Other
comments about our drop in and alcoline services: “The best thing was knowing that I could drop in anytime” “It was really useful to get information on the services provided by apas as well information on, and signposting to, other agencies.” “Non-judgemental, friendly advice, helpful options” “As a carer of an alcoholic to be able to speak to someone and obtain sensible and helpful advice was brilliant” “I was able to make appointment and see a counsellor that same day” “The most helpful part of the service was getting an instant answer to my query” “All of the service was very helpful the advice worker gave me all the info I needed to know” “Sympathetic help and advice” “ The Advice Worker contacted my GP to help arrange a detox which was really helpful” Feedback
on our Literature and Website
“The leaflets and handouts that were sent to me had lots of interesting facts about alcohol and the damage that it can do.” “I was sent an info pack, which I received the following day. It was extremely useful. Thank you all very much” “I found lots of useful advice and information on your website” Feedback
on apas training and awareness events
“May I take this opportunity to thank you for an interesting and enlightening day” Comments
received after an awareness session apas did for staff and clients at a housing
project in Loughborough. “Thank you for your contribution to making our information evening such a success. Many parents made a point of saying how much they had enjoyed the evening and how useful they found it.” Feedback
received from a School in West Bridgford where apas attended an awareness event
aimed at parents. “The session today has given me more confidence to work with drug users & I feel that I am more able to challenge them now” Comments
from a drug & crime awareness session apas held for Probation Officers. “Thank you to everyone who took part, the event was a huge success, the school were really grateful, the young people really enjoyed it and parents have commented on the difference it has made to their attitudes regarding, drugs, alcohol and relationships. Feedback
from a school event where apas ran a workshop on alcohol. When questioned, over
25% of the young people in attendance chose our workshop as the most interesting
and the most useful. |
